چکیده

Train path (infrastructure), rolling stock and crew scheduling are three critical planning decisions in railway transportation. These resources are usually planned separately in a sequential process that typically starts from planning (1) train paths and goes further on to (2) rolling stock and (3) train drivers. Such a sequential approach helps to handle the complexity of the planning process and simplify the underlying mathematical models. However, it generates solutions with higher costs because the decisions taken at one step can drastically reduce the set of feasible solutions in the following steps. In this paper, we propose a Lagrangian heuristic framework to solve an integrated problem which globally and simultaneously considers the planning of two railway resources: Rolling stock units and train drivers. Based on a mixed integer linear programming formulation, this approach has two important characteristics in an industrial context: (i) It can tackle real-life integrated planning problems and (ii) the Lagrangian dual is solved by calling two proprietary software modules available at SNCF. Various relaxation schemes are analyzed. Moreover, coupling constraints are rewritten to improve the heuristic effectiveness. Numerical experiments on real-life instances illustrate the effectiveness of the Lagrangian heuristic, and the impact of various parameters is analyzed. Compared to a sequential approach, it leads to cost reductions and generates good solutions in a reasonable CPU time. 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Meta-heuristic Algorithms for an Integrated Production-Distribution Planning Problem in a Multi-Objective Supply Chain

In today's globalization, an effective integration of production and distribution plans into a unified framework is crucial for attaining competitive advantage. This paper addresses an integrated multi-product and multi-time period production/distribution planning problem for a two-echelon supply chain subject to the real-world variables and constraints. It is assumed that all transportations a...

Designing an integrated production/distribution and inventory planning model of fixed-life perishable products

This paper aims to investigate the integrated production/distribution and inventory planning for perishable products with fixed life time in the constant condition of storage throughout a two-echelon supply chain by integrating producers and distributors. This problem arises from real environment in which multi-plant with multi-function lines produce multi-perishable products with fixed life ti...

Column Generation with Dynamic Duty Selection for Railway Crew Rescheduling

The Dutch railway network experiences about three large disruptions per day on average. In this paper, we present an algorithm to reschedule the crews when such a disruption occurs. The algorithm is based on column generation techniques combined with Lagrangian heuristics. Since the number of duties is very large in practical instances, we first define a core problem of tractable size. If some ...

Solving railway line planning problems using a decomposition algorithm

The passenger line planning is a process of strategic long-term decision-making problem in the field of railway passenger planning. A line is a route between starting point and destination with certain stops, which has a certain frequency of train schedule. A new solution based on decomposition algorithm has been proposed in this paper, which is defined in a master problem and two sub problems....
